Stay involved to a certain degree, test fairly well on either the ACT or SAT, and try to keep your grades up. Be balanced basically.

I have a 3Oct 22 2005Unknown
i have a 3.8 GPA and a 34 ACT and i got my letter 3 weeks after i sent it all in for the class of 2010.
But i know kids who got it last year with a 3.7 and a 27
one thing to remember is UM grading system where A+'s, A's, and A-'s all count as 4.0 and B+'s, B's, and B-'s all count as 3.0, etc
you should definitely think of that when you're wondering which classes to spend more time on in high school.

When I applied, my SAT/ACT and GPA were rightOct 17 2005Political Science
When I applied, my SAT/ACT and GPA were right on the 50th percentile, so I had an average chance of getting in. Since then the averages have gone up and Umich has admitted to VERY large classes because of their new admissions formula. Basically, expect admission to get a lot harder in the future. For me, student activities and going to a prestigious high school I believe made the difference. If you can, by all means get the "hook-up". I know many kids who get in because their parents know someone in the admissions department, and I even know some admissions officers who practice this method.
ACT: 29 SAT: 1290 Male

Hmm...for the essay, write something original. That means, don't write about how your mom read to you when you were a kid (LSA hopefuls) or about how you played with legos (for all you aspiring engineers.)
